How is it even possible?

Y’all, I have been having the WORST time with this website. When I say I am technologically illiterate, I mean it to the fullest extent. I don’t know what the hell a plug-in is, or a cache, or a CPanel. Anyways, I kept trying to login to post and I kept getting an error, and I was like hmmm… I’ll just wait it out. (Ya know. Ignore the problem for as long as possible right?) A few hours of downtime turned into¬†a couple of days and no relief, so I contacted IT yesterday and they said they fixed it. Logged in today to post and still an error message. ūüôĀ So I finally got in contact with someone else at the host IT and they fixed it! I tried to understand what I had done and how to fix it in the future buuuttttt, they could have been speaking Spanish and I would have understood just as much. (Which is nothing because my 3 years of Spanish in high school didn’t stick. Me gusta nadar, anyone? No? Ok.) So I’m up and running for now until I break it again.

We have decided to start a tradition this year of volunteering every holiday season. Some of the greatest memories I have of church is volunteering and getting involved in the community. So this year we volunteered with iDream Inc, a non-profit group that works with low income families in the community. They choose a different church every year and reach out ¬†to local families to invite them to the event. We were able to serve¬†food and pass out presents to the little ones, and it was so much fun. I have to brag on Kyle for a second because he was so awesome. He dove right in helping unload and set everything up. At one point I didn’t know where he went, and I found out he had wandered off to help people at the church that weren’t even involved with the iDream organization. He has such a helpful heart, and I am so lucky to have him as my life partner.

On Sunday we went out to Kyle’s mom’s and stepdad’s for lunch, and so they could see their precious grand-dog. ¬†We were helping host at a church out there with one of our old youth pastor’s, so we left Georgia at his mom’s so they could spoil her while we were gone. Since we are currently in a condo, she doesn’t have a yard to run around in, and we feel so guilty for it. We love taking her out to their house so she can just roam free. She is so nosy and quickly wears herself out getting into everything she can. She was so exhausted that Kyle literally carried her up the stairs to her bed. She didn’t even flinch. So cute!

So how in the world is it already almost Christmas?! I just want to curl up in a ball and avoid all responsibility. Do y’all have any super fun plans for this holiday season or are you in the fetal position too?

Frozen

Not the movie, my body. I can honestly say I HATE cold weather. I hate it with a passion, and I dread this time of year. It’s a constant internal struggle because I really enjoy going out and seeing the decorations and celebrating the holiday season. Except, if I have to put on more than a light jacket over my sweater, that’s it. I’m staying inside. I’m a giant baby when it comes to the cold, and apparently so is Georgia.¬†

She loves to snuggle under the blankets with her toys (that she has destroyed beyond the point of recognition). Does anyone else have pups or kitties that love to curl up under the blankets? Georgia especially loves to bury her face.

When it gets cold outside, I tend to start craving hearty soups with loads of veggies. So for the past week I have been tearing up a pot of ground chicken and vegetable soup. I love throwing a dollop of cottage cheese on top and an over easy egg. SO good.

  • one pound of ground chicken sauteed in garlic and butter
  • TONS <–scientific measurement of squash, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms seasoned with Mrs. Dash Onion and Herb
  • 1 carton of unsalted chicken stock

Simmer until all vegetables are soft. SOUPer easy to do. (I made this joke to my sister yesterday and she said I should use it in casual conversation. So here’s to you Kayla)

Candles are also way more appealing to me in the winter. In the heat and humidity of Georgia summers, I almost feel like a crazy person if I light a candle. I found the above candle at on sale at Target during the summer ¬†and it has quickly become my absolute favorite. It’s called pink magnolia and smells just like the name, like magnolia flowers and even has a light hint¬†of pink grapefruit.¬†I’ve been burning it to death, so I need to find more to hoard for life. What are some of your favorite candles?

*This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but it was a bit of mass chaos yesterday. Sorry guys!*

Mental Health

*Trigger Warning: This post includes talk about anxiety, depression, and eating habits. If those subjects could have negative effects, please come back tomorrow for a new post. Love always.*

Good morning, friends! Can we talk about something serious and so dear to my heart for a second? Mental Health. If you have read my About Me, you already know anxiety and depression are things I have suffered from. I currently battle with anxiety and minor bouts of depression, but NOTHING will compare to what I was going through at this time last year. I was miserable. I wish I could tell you what triggered the downward spiral, but I really can’t. I have guesses because around this time last year there were lots of changes in my personal and professional life. I had also been on a birth control that had side effects of depression, but I had already been on it for a year prior. Apparently your body can one day have a side effect it has never had before to a certain medication that you have been on for a long time. Anyways, I am writing this post because mental health is something I am working on in my life on a daily basis and I want to share some love. I am working on my self-talk and also how I talk to other people. I am working on being real with myself about certain situations and trying to avoid having a “perfectionist’s mindset.” With social media, I think this is the hardest part, but I always have to remind myself that I only post the good things and so does everyone else. The above quote is something I strive for daily because we can get so caught up in fad diets and quick-fix workout routines, but in the end, we need to focus on who we are as human beings. You may have abs or fabulous glutes, but are you TRULY happy? And if your answer to that is “no,” I urge you to pursue help. This also goes well beyond the gym. To my mamas out there, I see you busting ass to make sure the kids are eating healthy and getting to bed at a reasonable hour. I promise the chicken nuggets for dinner or the unwashed dishes will not tarnish your kiddos futures. And the student that is currently considering throwing her laptop across the library and telling everyone around her to go eff themselves, I see you. It’s almost over boo. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. And to the young person that has had some things at work that just aren’t going right and you’re wondering how in the world you’re going to make this holiday season work, I’m cheering for you. You are not alone. You are not weak. You are not abnormal. You are a human being. Give yourself a break. *hugs*

A little dose of Georgia love.

Post-Weekend

A coffee haiku written by yours truly.

I love you coffee.

You make my life worth living.

Coffee, I love you.

Thank you. Thank you. It was a team effort between me and coffee. Coffee was my motivation this weekend. It was a wonderful one but an exhausting one. Kyle and I got to watch my niece for the first time. She is just over 2 months old, and this was the first time my sister had left her with anyone since giving birth. I had to send constant pictures and updates. Luckily, it all went smoothly and I think we showed her that we are capable of watching an infant. So maybe in two years she will let us watch her again. ūüėČ

Kyle and I also found an AWESOME donut place this weekend in Sandy Springs called DaVinci’s Donuts. They also have a location in Alpharetta. Their donuts are the cake-like kind which is my favorite. The only complaint I have is that they are small and only maybe 3 bites per donut. But they have plenty of flavor options for all the different palettes. My favorite was french toast (top right) and Kyle’s was the cinnamon sugar (bottom right). We also got from left to right top to bottom maple bacon, french toast, M&M, Oreo, strawberry shortcake, sprinkle, birthday cake, and cinnamon sugar.

Kyle’s birthday is today so I am still trying to figure out what to cook for dinner tonight for him. Any suggestions?

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and are having a wonderful beginning of your week!

Christmas is 20 days away!

Friday Faves

I love the Friday faves from other blogs so I decided to do one of my own. I hope you enjoy! Please leave some suggestions of your own in the comments!

And awaaaayyy we go!

I have been craving tacos lately, and luckily the hubby wanted some BBQ tonight. So I got to have some BOMB tacos from¬†Spiced Right¬†in Roswell. Seriously, their BBQ is absolutely delicious, and their brisket tacos are glorious. I’m drooling just looking at this picture.

Georgia has been super duper snuggly lately. At first I was worried that she was getting sick (do dogs get snuggly when they’re sick like kiddos do?), but it looks like she’s just getting even more comfortable here with us. We have only had her for about 3 months now, so I think there are still certain things she is trying to adjust to. But I am loving her crawling up on the couch with us and falling asleep. Her snoring is precious.

I am really trying to get on the infused water bandwagon. I know I’m really late, but I really want to love it. It’s ok I guess, but I feel like¬†this¬†would help me get even more into it. It’s so cute!!!

I have been trying for years to find the right planner for me. I like details, and I like to be able to have one whole page for my day. As a student I need room for planning hour by hour as well as a to do list to keep up with homework assignments, but I don’t want some giant bulky binder. I have enough of those. I have been using¬†The Simplified Planner¬†in gold pineapple (how cute are those pineapples?!) since August, and I am so obsessed! I am never changing again. I have found my perfect planner.

This and this iphone case would change my life. I need them.

Do you have any cool things you’ve found around the internet?
